School Year 2021–2022
Mathematics Specialist Institute (K–8)
The Mathematics Specialist Institute is designed for educators who serve in a math specialist role in their districts and schools; they may be released either full time or part time but should have the opportunity to support teachers to improve their instructional practice. The Metro Chicago Mathematics Initiative (MCMI) at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) is offering seven sessions, six 2.5 hour virtual sessions and one full day on-site session with a focus on supporting teachers in either a virtual or face-to-face environment. The institute is focused on three components to build the capacity of math specialists:
- To collaborate with colleagues in their role as coaches to build teacher capacity with a focus on student thinking and learning;
- To lead productive grade level teams and engaging professional development sessions; and
- To understand and use productive intervention strategies to meet the needs of a wide range of learners.
ISBE Professional Development Hours will be provided for each session. Additional information is available at: Elementary Math Specialist Institute 2021–2022
Virtual sessions will be held from 12:30 – 3:00 PM on six of the days and from 8:30 – 2:30 for a full-day during the on-site coaching session.
Registration will be available soon through Eventbrite.
Registration is free to participants in districts participating in the MCMI PD Consortium and available to all others for a fee.
Please contact Jean Sutow-Goldrich (firstname.lastname@example.org) with questions about your district’s status for the 2021–2022 school year or for additional information about Consortium benefits.
