We are excited to welcome author and international professional development consultant Marian Small as our featured speaker on July 28, 2021, at the MCMI Summer Institute—Moving the Math Forward: Communicating and Connecting in the Mathematics Classrooms.
Meet Marian Small
Marian Small has authored more than 100 resources for teachers and students at the K–12 level. She writes and speaks about K–12 math around the world. Her focus is on teacher questioning to get at the important math, to include and extend all students, and to focus on critical thinking and creativity.
About Ms. Small’s Session
Getting to Know Your Students (Mathematically)
You have a fresh group of students in front of you this coming year and you want to establish the right personal and academic environment for them as quickly as possible.
What can you do to start the year to provide you the information you need to meet students where they are and move them forward in as non-threatening a way as possible?
We will explore the kind of diagnostic information you might want to gather and how gathering that information through the use of open questions might serve them and you in a very useful way.
Ms. Small will meet with administrators immediately following her session.
